Obituary

Nancyann Ruth Gerechoff, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on January 16, 1933, in Asbury Park, Nancy was a lifelong daughter of the community she loved and a woman whose warmth, wisdom, kindness, and devotion touched generations of family and friends.

Nancy grew up in Asbury Park, where her family owned and operated the Slade Hotel on 7th Avenue for more than 60 years. It was there that she developed the deep appreciation for family, hospitality, and community that would remain defining qualities throughout her life.

Nancy graduated from Asbury Park High School. At just 15 years old, she met the love of her life, Irwin Gerechoff, at a YMCA dance. Five years later, they were married, beginning a remarkable love story that lasted 67 years. They were together for 72 years—true partners and soulmates who lived, worked, traveled, and built their life side by side.

Nancy continued her education at LIM College in New York City, where she studied merchandising. After graduation, she worked at Steinbach Department Store as a bridal advisor. She was also a model and participated in numerous beauty pageants, including being named National Candy Queen of America.

Following their wedding, Nancy and Irwin lived in Binghamton and Albany, New York. During their years there, they helped establish Hebrew Day Schools, reflecting their lifelong commitment to education, community, and their love for Judaism.

In 1967, Nancy and Irwin returned home to Asbury Park and founded G&G Realtors. What began as their family business grew through the years to encompass three generations, with family members joining them in carrying on the business they built together.

Nancy was the heart of her home. She hosted holiday dinners and brought everyone together around her table. She was a wonderful cook, known especially for her potato kugel. She instilled the values of Judaism in her family, and more than anything, she was the glue that held her family together.

Nancy and Irwin raised two children, Abby and Russell, and had five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Her many nieces and nephews were also an important part of her life, and family was always at the center of Nancy's world.

Nancy loved to travel and saw much of the world, but her favorite journeys were those she shared with her family, particularly the many cruises that created memories they would cherish for years to come.

Nancy will be remembered for her warmth, her wisdom, her kindness, her generosity, and her unwavering devotion to those she loved. She will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She is survived by her daughter Abby Scheer, grandchildren Jordana and husband Nathan, Rachel and husband Joshua, Zachary and wife Emilie, Samantha and husband Michael, Russell and wife Celeste, and great grandchildren, Amos, Simone, Serafina, Aiden, Arianna, Yael, Riley, Albie and Avital.
