Luciana Gomes Fernandes, 84, of Washington D.C., passed away Wednesday surrounded by her family. Luciana was born on Palm Sunday in Quepem, Goa, India where she was raised until her teenage years when she moved to Mumbai. It was there she earned her English education on top of her Portuguese education. In her hometown of Goa she would meet the love of her life and the two would marry in 1965 and settle in Kuwait to raise their young family.
Luciana would go on to become an English teacher in a primary school and left a lasting impression on her students who remember her to date. She was a perfectionist but did everything with a loving and caring hand. She enjoyed music, singing, sewing and was an excellent cook; her turkey dinners for Christmas were like no others. She found gardening, bird watching, fishing, reading, going to the beach and a good card game of 7 hands relaxing.
Her faith in our Lord was unconditional. She was a devout Catholic and brought up her family with strong catholic values. Her favorite daily prayer was the Divine Mercy as well as the Anima Christi. She was selfless and giving, her prayers were for those who needed them and not for herself. She placed her trust in our Lord right until the very end and passed away peacefully listening to "How great thou art" as well as having the Rosary being recited to her.
Luciana was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Victorino "Victor" Ramos Fernandes and is survived by her children Sharon and her husband Dominic of the United Kingdom, Dr. Joyce Sandra and her husband Michael of Washington D.C, Sabyson Fernandes and his wife Odelia of Holmdel; her beloved grandchildren Sinclare, Simona, Kyle and Kimberly; and many loving nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 28th from 2:45-4:45PM at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Rd, Holmdel. A Eucharistic celebration of her life will be offered Monday, March 29th at 10:30 AM at St. Catharine's Roman Catholic Church, 108 Middletown Rd, Holmdel followed by a private burial at St. Gabriel's Cemetery, 549 County Rd 520, Marlboro.
