Obituary

James Hunter, 79, of Hazlet, died on Thursday, May 18 th 2023.

He was born in Jersey City in 1943 to Edna and James Hunter.

With a lifelong dedication to service, James served his country honorably with the US ARMY in the Vietnam War.  He would then go on to serve the citizens of Jersey City, where he was a firefighter for 25 years.  Following his retirement, he continued to serve the residents of Shadow Lake Village as a security officer for 8 years. When he was not serving others, he worked alongside his wife in the Floral shops they owned in Jersey City and Hazlet.

His greatest service was to his family, as a loving husband to his wife of 52 years, father, and grandfather to his 4 children, and 6 grandchildren.

He enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, bingo, playing the guitar and was an avid NY Giants fan. He also loved teaching fire prevention. Most of all, James loved spending time in the Catskills with his family.

He is predeceased by his parents Edna and James Hunter.

Surviving is his beloved wife Ellen Hunter, his son Thomas and his wife Colleen Hunter of Boonton, daughter Lauren and her husband Tomasz Kowalewski of Hazlet, daughter Janeen and her husband Nicholas D'Angelo of Hazlet, son Michael Hunter and his significant other Megan Stevens of Fort Mill SC, and six loving grandchildren Morgan, AnnaMarie, Victoria, Christopher, Anthony, and Nicholas.
